DOCTRINE OF DIVINE GUIDANCE
  1. There are three categories of volition in human history.
    1. Divine sovereignty.
    2. Angelic volition.
    3. Human volition.
  2. Divine guidance is a subject for believers, since each believer is in God's plan.
  3. Divine guidance begins at the Cross. It is God's will that all believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, 1Jn.3:23.
  4. The humanity of Jesus Christ is a special case of human volition. Jesus Christ has double volition (human volition and sovereignty), Mt.20:22; 26:42; Heb.10:7-9.
  5. Types of the will of God, with Balaam as an example.
    1. Directive: planned by God and in harmony with the essence of God, Num.22:12.
    2. Permissive: human volition is allowed to go against God's will, Num.22:20.
    3. Overruling: God overrules, Num.23:5,12,26.
  6. Academic principles of guidance.
    1. Before the completion of the canon:
      1. God spoke.
      2. Angels taught.
      3. There were dreams and visions.
      4. There was the urim and thumim.
      5. There were prophets.
    2. Since the completion of the canon, Scripture is the only source of God's will, Rom.12:2.
  7. Phase 2 categories of the will of God.
    1. Viewpoint: what God wants you to think.
    2. Operational: what God wants you to do.
    3. Geographic: where God wants you to be.
  8. Mechanics of the will of God, in Act.11.
    1. Guidance through prayer, v.5.
    2. Objective thinking. v.6.
    3. Contact with the Word, vss.7-10.
    4. Providential circumstances, v.11.
    5. Filling of the Holy Spirit, v.12.
    6. Category 3 relationships, vss.13-15.
    7. Scripture memory, v.16.
  9. Divine guidance reaches a routine peak in maturity, Heb.11:6.
