  1. Greek vocabulary.
    1. U`pomonh,, hupomone: patience with respect to circumstances.
    2. U`pomenw,, hupomeno: patience.
    3. Makroqumi,a, makrothumia: longsuffering, forbearance with respect to people. This is the only word used to denote God's patience, 1Thess.5:14; Eph.6:2.
  2. Patience is an anthropopathism for:
    1. Holding back wrath to the unbeliever, Rom.2:4; 9:22; 1Pet.3:20; 2Pet.3:9.
    2. An eschatalogical waiting over the elect, Lk.18:18, the unjust judge.
  3. Patience is the principle of positive volition at God consciousness, Rom.2:7.
  4. Patience and GAP (the grace apparatus for perception).
    1. Bible Doctrine produces it, Gal.5:22; Col.1:11.
    2. It is essential (in tests) to our advance, Heb.12:1; Rom.15:4,5.
    3. It designates a category of listener to Bible Doctrine, Lk.8:15.
    4. It is a virtue developed by testing, Jam.1:3.
    5. It eventuates in maturity, Jam.1:4.
  5. Patience is a part of the indwelling of Christ, 2Pet.1:6.

    4. Abraham as the example of grace, Heb.6:15.

    6. Paul to the Royal Family, 2Cor.6:46; 12:12.
    7. Old Testament prophets, Jam.5:10.
  7. Specific categories should have patience.
    1. Pastor-Teachers, 1Tim.6:11; 2Tim.4:2.
    2. The Church as a whole, Rev.2:2,19; 3:10.
    3. Older men, elders, Ti.2:2.
  8. The Royal Family is to have patience toward all men, 1Thess.5:14.
  9. Lack of patience is a sign of negative volition or reversionism, Heb.10:36.
  10. Patience is one of the characteristics of true love, 1Cor.13:4,7.
  11. Patience has a Phase 3 application to the Church.
    1. Even though not in the Rapture, be patient, Rom.8:25.
    2. It is commanded as we wait, Jam.5:7,8.
    3. It is a characteristic of the model church, 1Thess.1:3; 2Thess.1:4.
  12. Patience and testing, Rom.12:12.
    1. Testing perfects patience, Rom.5:3; Jam.1:3.
    2. Doctrinal precedent encourages patience, Rom.15:4.
    3. A reward is associated with enduring undeserved suffering, 1Pet.
