1. Resurrection is the union of the soul with a new body following physical death. The new body is not subject to time or space. Resurrection must be distinguished from resuscitation. Resuscitation involves returning the soul to the same old temporal body that died physically.
2. Resurrection is a part of the Gospel, 1Cor.15:1-4, 12-17.
3. It is connected with Theophanies and Christophanies.
1. A Theophany is an appearance of Christ before the incarnation.
2. A Christophany is an appearance of Christ after His resurrection, Mt.16:9, Lk.24:13ff, Act.2:23.
4. Resurrection is a part of the strategic victory of the Angelic Conflict.
5. Resurrection is required for perpetuation of the Davidic Covenant, Rom.1:3-4, 2Tim.2:8
6. It is the basis for the believer's confidence in the future, 1Pet.1:3-5, 21
7. Resurrection is the completion of the ministry of justification for believers, Rom.4:25.
8. Identification of Christ in His resurrection through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the motivation for a believer's application in time, Rom.6:4, 1Cor.16:57-58.
9. Two general categories of resurrection
1. Believers only, Dan.12:2, Jn.5:24-29, 1Cor.15:20-22, Rom.20:6,13.
2. The Second Resurrection or the resurrection of unbelievers, Mt.25:41, 1Cor.15:24, Rev.20:5-15.
10. Subdivisions of the First Resurrection (1Cor.15) in chronological order.
1. Christ - the first and only person to be resurrected to date. He is the first and only member of this division.
2. The Church - the second group. This resurrection occurs at the Rapture of the Church, Jn.14:1-3, 1Cor.15:51-57, Phil.3:20-21, 1Thes.4:13,18.
3. The Family of God - the third group includes all OT and Tribulation saints and occurs at the Second Advent, Dan.12:13, Mt.24:31, Rev.20:4.
4. Millennial Saints - the final group is resurrected at the end of the Millenium.
11. Agents of the resurrection of Christ.
1. The Father, Col.2:12, 1Pet.1:21, 1Thes.1:10.
2. The Holy Spirit, Act.2:24, Rom.1:4, 8:11, 1Pet.3:18.
3. The Son, Rom.4:24.
